Practice Video
This is my practice video on the Jazz ensemble
I learnt a lot of things from this video, especially by hearing it now that my tempo is a little off-beat which makes others feel like this is confusing, I need to improve more on the beat and the harmony with the other instruments.
Week 7: 21st - 25th May 2012
Music Ensemble Rehearsal
Reflection Question: What do I think about the Jingle Work?
Basically I think that my jingle is quite good because I used several different instruments to cover the melody, bass, chords, and some additional ones. There are some strong bits on my jingle, one of them is the repetition on several parts because its quite bad to have everything different at the same time, making the structure not clear.
Instrument Class: Music Group Ensemble Practice
This week we practiced our music group jazz ensemble song called the "The Girl from Ipanema". This song is nice to hear and the tempo is also interesting enough. We have doen several practices and I think that went well.

I have practiced several chords with Mr. Herry's way in the inversions. I also learned about the 7, 9, 22, and 13 chords.

This week Mr. Herry guided me in practicing the chords and its inversions. Mr. Herry also taught me about the 7, 9, 11, and 13 chords, which turned out to sound good with the melody and tempo. I need to practice this more so the transition will be smooth.

Singing Assssment
Reflection Question: How Did My Singing Assessment Go?
I think I have done my singing assessment quite well because my group sang in voice one and voice 2 in a good way. I need to raise my confidence in my singing because I think I sang with a small voice, and my mouth needs to be closer to the microphone to increase the volume.
Instrument Class: Practicing Jazz Ensemble
This week I practiced my part in the jazz ensemble, which is the piano. I played the chords with the right hand and the bass on the left. I need to practice my skills in the inversion and the expression such as the tempo, the articulation, etc.

20-24 March 2012, Playing Blues Song
How was my understanding of blues after my performance?
This week we practiced or blues song and Mr. Herry assessed us. My group is with Shafiera and Astri, and I thought that I've done quite well about it. With this assessment, I've begun to learn Blues with more passion. My understanding about the accompaniment chords went better because it increases the range of scales I knew, enabling me to accompany a blues song.
Instrument Class: Rehearsal and Assessment
On this week, we rehearsed our blues song for the last time and assessed on the following day. I made some minor changes on the accompaniment on the part where I'm not playing to make it sound better, by using the left hand as the bass and the right hand as the chord.

How is my understanding now about improvisation especially in blues?
This week we practiced our blues song and Mr. Herry gave us the basics about improvisation. With this song, I became better in understanding the improvisation because of these practice and rehearsals for the assessment later.

Explain the great role of blues in the development of early jazz!
Blues owns a great role in the development of early jazz, it is the characteristic of jazz and supports it's development until now, so we can say that blues is the backbone of jazz. Most jazz songs now are with the base of blues. We need to learn blues in order to understand and play jazz.

On this week's instrument class, we practiced our songs for the assessment later. We're divided into groups of 3 and play our parts in turn. I think this is a creative and efficient method to balance the amount of work on each student.

This is really important in order to increase our skills and abilities.

Did you face any challenges working on your 12-bars-blues?
On making my 12-bars-blues song, I do face several problems, mainly because of the minor details such as the sharp, flat, and rests. I also misunderstand some articulation problems at that time before I changed it. These things are mistakes and I need to be more careful next time to prevent this from happening again.

16-20 January 2012, Interest in Jazz
How did you find the topic of Jazz and how did the teacher do it?
At first Jazz is not really improvised as the musician needs to think the improvisation on the step, as it is with the history of Jazz. The inventors of Jazz thought about it first to be played better on the next generation.
Instrument Class: Chord Progression
On this week, we learned the song "All of Me" with it's chords. After I learned the first half, we practiced the other half to play the accompaniment correctly
