Practice Video

This is my practice video on the Jazz ensemble
I learnt a lot of things from this video, especially by hearing it now that my tempo is a little off-beat which makes others feel like this is confusing, I need to improve more on the beat and the harmony with the other instruments.

Week 7: 21st - 25th May 2012

Music Ensemble Rehearsal

Reflection Question: What do I think about the Jingle Work?
Basically I think that my jingle is quite good because I used several different instruments to cover the melody, bass, chords, and some additional ones. There are some strong bits on my jingle, one of them is the repetition on several parts because its quite bad to have everything different at the same time, making the structure not clear.

Instrument Class: Music Group Ensemble Practice
This week we practiced our music group jazz ensemble song called the "The Girl from Ipanema". This song is nice to hear and the tempo is also interesting enough. We have doen several practices and I think that went well.

Week 6: 14th - 17th May 2012

Rehearsing Jazz Ensemble

Reflection Question: How is my progress in my Jazz ensemble?
I think I have done my role in the Jazz group ensemble quite well because I communicated well with the other group members, especially Sarah on piano, which is very crucial to make the sound in harmony and in a good teamwork. I have practiced several chords with Mr. Herry's way in the inversions. I also learned about the 7, 9, 22, and 13 chords.

Instrument Class: Practicing my role in Jazz ensemble
This week Mr. Herry guided me in practicing the chords and its inversions. Mr. Herry also taught me about the 7, 9, 11, and 13 chords, which turned out to sound good with the melody and tempo. I need to practice this more so the transition will be smooth.

Week 5: 7th - 11th May 2012

Singing Assssment

Reflection Question: How Did My Singing Assessment Go?
I think I have done my singing assessment quite well because my group sang in voice one and voice 2 in a good way. I need to raise my confidence in my singing because I think I sang with a small voice, and my mouth needs to be closer to the microphone to increase the volume.

Instrument Class: Practicing Jazz Ensemble
This week I practiced my part in the jazz ensemble, which is the piano. I played the chords with the right hand and the bass on the left. I need to practice my skills in the inversion and the expression such as the tempo, the articulation, etc.

Business and industries do affect musicians. They record and sell their music through professional management and networks. They made the musician popular and to spread the music so that everyone is able to access it. These industries involves the making of the cover the burning of CDs and other details.

On this week we practiced our singing rehearsal for the assessment next week. The music notation is also checked to practice our knowledge on our chords. from major7, minor7, diminished, dominant and sometimes minormajor7.

Week 3: 23 - 27 April 2012

Reflection Question: How have developments in technology change the ways in which we engage with music?

Technology greatly changed our experience in music, from recording, singing, and hearing. Updated technology enables us to record clearer songs with a broader range of sounds. iPods are also one of the best innovations, as it enables us to listen to music everywhere, literally. Headphones also allows us to hear music without disturbing others.

Instrument Class: Presentation

This week, we presented our presentations as well as listening to others about the roles of music in society. With this, I learnt new stuff to be added to my knowledge, such as music to cure cancer, music to change emotions, etc.

Week 2: 16- 20 April 2012

Subject: Quiz, Chords, and Scales
Reflection Question: What are the functions of music in society?

Music is very important in our society. They play a very important role because it brings many positive effects, such as entertainment, making money, dancing, relaxation, and many more. Music can be understood deeply if we know the structure, so having a test about the chords and listing their roles are very important, so is he discussion of scales.

Instrument Class: Practicing the Song

This week we continue to practice the song we had chosen grom Mr. Herry's compiled songs, which is "Smile". I think I've done a good job with it because I can play both left and the right hand well.

Week 1: April 9 - 13

Topic: Reviewing scales and notation
Reflection Question: What is the role of music in your life?

Music is very important in our lives. It brings creativity, joy, expression, and inspiration. Without music, our lives will be dull and boring because everything is without any beat and tone. Last week we also learnt a jazz song of our choice from the compiled work of Mr. Herry. We also reviewed the minor scale because next week we will have a quiz.

Instrument Class: Learning a Jazz Song
On this week, we practiced our jazz song from one of the songs Mr. Herry gave us. I chose the sont "Smile" because it's very simple and familiar while opening opportunities to improvise on the song (both tempo and melody)
